Survey Level A
Underground utilities are visually observed and located at a manhole or inspection chamber, or are partially excavated by hand dig or vacuum excavation trial holes.

Survey Level B (Recommended)
A site visit is undertaken and the underground utilities are located using various geophysical methods including radio frequency location and ground penetrating radar. This can be done alongside the two previous levels to increase the accuracy of the survey.
Survey Level C
A site visit is undertaken and the existing records are confirmed with topographical features such as water/gas valves, visible scarring from repairs etc.
Survey Level/Type D
This is a desktop records search where underground utilities are identified through existing records (statuary undertaker drawings).
